Prince William could be fourth prince to get cross tattoo during Jerusalem visit

Prince William could become the fourth prince to get a tattoo of a cross in the same tattoo parlour in Jerusalem if he chooses to follow in an inked Royal line during his visit to Israel this summer.

While William is the first Royal ever to make an official visit to Israel, three of his Victorian predecessors – Edward VII, George V and Prince Albert – all visited the Holy Land, and were all customers at the Razzouk tattoo parlour in Jerusalem, which is still trading.

Speculation follows publication of a briefing note by UK-Israel think-tank BICOM suggesting where the prince may visit, beyond expected meetings with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

BICOM said William may visit some holy sites in Jerusalem, such as the Anglican St George’s Cathedral, which was established in 1899, while in the West Bank, it said William “is likely to visit Bethlehem, potentially visiting the Church of the Nativity”.

Beyond religious sites BICOM said William could meet Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, visit the national Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem, attend the grave of Prince Philip’s mother, and possibly visit the British War Memorial on Mount Scopus, at the Mount of Olives.

William’s visit was announced in early March to cheers from Britain’s Jewish community. William’s father Charles has been to Israel several times, most recently for the funeral of Shimon Peres, and is a supporter of Jewish causes.
