Priyanka Chopra's Shoah selfies

An Indian model who won the Miss World 2000 pageant has deleted a ‘Holocaust selfie’ she posted online, taken at Berlin’s Shoah memorial.

Priyanka Chopra, the star of the new Baywatch film was in Germany promoting her Hollywood debut, and meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chopra, posted two ‘selfies’ at the Holocaust memorial, and was then criticised by other social medial users as being ‘insensitive.’

One of the pictures the 34-year old posted was with her brother, and said they were “being tourists. There is such an eerie silence here”, whilst another simply said “Holocaust memorial #Berlin”.

Indian journalist Latha Srinivasan took to Twitter, and said: “why why why would @priyankachopra go and take a selfie at the Holocaust memorial?! #FAIL”.

Another user said: “Taking selfies at the Holocaust memorial was tasteless and frankly very ignorant and stupid!”.

Earlier in her trip to Berlin, Chopra had been criticised for ‘immodesty’ after wearing an outfit which showed her legs during a meeting with PM Modi.

In January, Israeli-German writer and satirist Shahak Shapira produced a series of photomontages to highlight the phenomenon of ‘Holocaust selfies.’

He created photomontages showing people striking poses at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin before the background changes to show them posing amid piles of murdered victims.
