Zionists have been labelled “disgusting” for planning to use the Chicago SlutWalk march against rape and sexual violence to promote a “nationalist agenda”.

Organisers of Saturday’s event criticised the new Jewish group called Zioness, formed last week by the director of a group calling itself the “legal arm of the pro-Israel community”.

The dozen Zioness marchers said they planned to wear the Star of David, after organisers said religious symbols would be allowed, but national symbols would not.

SlutWalk is a women’s rights demonstration against “rape culture,” and to show support for victims of sexual assault. Attendees sing, share stories, listen to speakers and march across the country.

Chicago’s SlutWalk this year follows controversy in March when organisers of the Dyke March expelled a Jewish LGBT+ group for carrying flags adorned with the Star of David.

Zioness founder Amanda Berman said that was “unacceptable, the line has been crossed, there’s no way we can walk back from it now…It’s now about Jews.”

However organisers of SlutWalk Chicago said they “do not support the ‘Zioness progressives’ planning on coming to the walk Saturday… We find it disgusting that any group would appropriate a day dedicated to survivors fighting rape culture in order to promote their own nationalist agenda.”
