‘Proud’ Grant sees Ghana lose African Cup final on penalties

Former Ghana coach Avram Grant

Avram Grant said the better team lost Sunday’s African Cup of Nations final, after he saw his Ghana side lose to the Ivory Coast in a tense penalty shoot-out.

After both sides produced a goalless 120 minutes of action, Grant’s side seemed to be heading to victory in the shoot-out after he saw his side convert their first two spot kicks, while Ivory Coast missed theirs. However, Ghana failed to convert their next two, before evetually losing 9-8.

But full of praise for his side, Grant said: “I’m so proud of my team and they always make me happy. To reach the final is a big achievement. The players have shown a lot of good things at this tournament.

“We were the better side against a team that has some of the best players around. It was down to penalties and the opponent scored one more than us.

“Every Ghanaian can be proud of this team.”
