Pup idol: Jonathan Ross to help sniff out cutest pets

Jewish Blind & Disabled 'excited' to have TV presenter deciding which furry or feathered entry makes him smile the most in special Pesach-themed competition

Dog-lover and TV personality Jonathan Ross will judge a contest to find the community’s cutest pet.

Jewish Blind & Disabled (JBD)’s PETron competition is looking for furry and feathery entries along a special Pesach theme.

The charity is calling for animal-lovers to submit pictures of a pooch munching matzah, a parrot on a seder plate, or a cat finding the afikomen, ahead of the festival in April. So far there have already been around 10 entries.

JBD took to Twitter, saying: “We are very excited to have the lovely @Wossy judging our PETron competition this year… which has special Passover theme for 2020!”

The winner will be the most creative Pesach picture that makes Jonathan smile the most. To enter your pet, please contact abi@jbd.org.”

Tweeting to his 5 million followers, Ross said: “Let’s see those cuties!”

While there is no charge to enter the competition, all pets need to be PETrons of Jewish Blind & Disabled, which costs £5 a month, and they receive goodies, a certificate and entry to the competition.

Proceeds go towards JBD’s work supporting those with physical disabilities or visual impairments and hopefuls need to enter by 27 March, with the 2020 winner be announced on April 6.

Jonathan Ross spoke at the charity’s lunch in 2012 and judged the competition in 2018, choosing dogs, Lola and Lili, as joint winners.

Last year’s winner was Kuzzi the cat, crowned by Little Britain star Matt Lucas.

Lisa Wimborne, Chief Executive of Jewish Blind & Disabled, said: “Jonathan Ross has been a great supporter of Jewish Blind & Disabled over the years so it’s fantastic to have him back judging our PETron competition – with its special Pesach theme. The PETron scheme is a fun way for the whole family to get involved in supporting our vital work and we can’t wait to see all the photos they send in.”
