Redbridge B edge tough thriller

Shorn of his University boys, Redbridge strength in depth was tested to the full as manager Jon Jacobs called up for David Castle, Amir Nathan and Matt Zartz.

UPDATED TABLE

A fairly even first 20 minutes saw no real chances created, but Redbridge started to take control with a resurgent Sam Sollosi pulling all the strings, and goal number 1 arrived with a smart right-footed finish from Daniel Garfinkle.

This was followed by a headed goal by captain Darren Brown, before saving the best till last, Sam Sollosi picked up the ball 25 yards out, shifted his feet and smashed the ball home caressing the bar on its way in. Sam just stood there as though scoring such goals of beauty happen on a daily basis, we need to teach him a goal celebration as this is the first of many.

As half-time was looming, Blancos stepped up their game and got a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

Instructing his side to keep it tight and not to let Blancos back into the game at the break, Jacobs words seemed to be totally ignored as Blancos scored a second straight after the restart.

They were now in the ascendancy and Redbridge were looking vulnerable. But bringing on Dave Castle to replace debutant Harry Mednick, and Amir Nathan to replace talisman Sam Rank seemed to have the desired affect as the game was on a knife edge and who ever scored next would take home the spoils.

Daniel Garfinkle had been ill over night and was a huge doubt up till kick-off, and seemed to be signalling to the bench to come off but with 10 minutes to go, he picked up a loose ball and stroked home a smart finish to kill the game

Jacobs said afterwards: “In an even game, it needs class to differentiate the two teams and in Sam Sollosi, Redbridge had the star performer . The Blancos midfield will have nightmares of chasing and failing to catch or kick Sam , a true master class in the art of midfield play.”
