Redbridge beat Hendon in five-goal thriller

Redbridge fought back from two goals down to defeat Hendon in a five-goal thriller in the third of three epic encounters between the two sides.

Redbridge needed to start on the front foot but all the best laid plans were in tatters after seven minutes. A sloppy corner conceded saw Hendon take the lead after two minutes with confusion from the Redbridge goalkeeper and defenders leaving a tap-in from a yard out. Goal two came from a mazy run and smart finish as Hendon found themselves in the ascendancy.

Games turn on marginal decisions and Hendon had a chance to extend their lead but didn’t take the half chance, meaning Redbridge started to grow into the game and when a free-kick was parried by Russell Corin, Dean Nyman snapped up the rebound for a simple finish.

Half-time came and it was Redbridge now on the front foot. Defensively, the recently retired Darren Brown was looking serene alongside Adam Hakimi who was a major doubt before the game.

After 15 minutes of the second half and with Russell Corin looking unbeatable, a driving inside run by Daniel Garfinkle saw three Hendon defenders trailing in his wake, as he scored with a low driven shot into the corner.

Redbridge were in total dominance now and it now became Redbridge vs Russell Corin. From a cross on the right, Goldman headed a goal-bound bullet, but Corin leapt to his right and fully stretched, pulled off a remarkable save. He then kept out two goal-bound shots from Ben Sollosi and a header from Hakimi as the game looked to be heading for a draw.

But with a minute left, Redbridge got a corner and with the ball rebounding from the tireless Berkley, it fell to the feet of Adam Hakimi and he buried it into the net.

The final score was 3-2 to Redbridge in what was another pulsating thriller with both sets of players a credit to their clubs.

The win nicely sets up game number four in the Peter Morrison next week and after 24 goals in the previous three games, it won’t lack excitement for sure.
