Reform Jews sign up to ‘values manifesto’ in bid to end divisive rhetoric

Progressive Jews join Christian, Sikh, Hindu and Muslim groups in committing to protect the 'most vulnerable' and support

The values manifesto

Reform Judaism has signed up to a ‘values manifesto’ along with Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh groups, in a pre-election bid to end divisive rhetoric.

The launch of the pledge, co-signed by the Church of England, City Hindus Network, Sikh Council UK and the British Muslim Forum, was delayed by the bombing of a concert hall in Manchester, and organisers say it is made even more important by events.

As well as committing to “protect the most vulnerable,” religious leaders urge an appreciation of diversity “as healthy for Britain,” including by “listening to views we disagree with, and trying to understand why people hold these views”.

Senior Reform Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner said: “We want to change the language of the election and ensure candidates are discussing values, not just value.”
