Reform leader Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner to chair Wingate Prize judging panel

Progressive figure will judge 2021 literary competition, which counts past winners including Amos Oz, Zadie Smith, Oliver Sacks, Otto Dov Kulka, David Grossman and Linda Grant.

Senior Reform Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner is to chair the judging panel for one of the Jewish world’s top literary prizes next year.

The Reform leader will be judging the winner of the 2021 Wingate Literary Prize, which counts past winners such as Amos Oz, Zadie Smith, Oliver Sacks, Otto Dov Kulka, David Grossman and last year’s winner Linda Grant.

The judging panel for the £4,000 prize will also include magazine editor Andrew Miller, historian Anne Sebba and screenwriter Nikesh Shukla.

Janner-Klausner said: “It is a unique prize, which rewards authors fulfilling the vital purpose of helping the wider world to understand Jews and Jewishness. That purpose is especially important today.”
