Israel reportedly sets 15 March deadline for diplomatic solution with Hezbollah
Hezbollah has attacked northern Israel on a daily basis since October 8, launching anti-tank missiles, missiles and drones at both military and civilian targets
Israel has set 15 March as its deadline for solving the conflict with Hezbollah on its northern border, according to Lebanese media.
Al-Akhbar newspaper, affiliated with Hezbollah, is citing Western officials as saying that Israel will go to war with the terror group by 15 March if a political settlement isn’t reached by then.
Hezbollah has attacked northern Israel on a daily basis since 8 October, launching anti-tank missiles, missiles and drones at both military and civilian targets. Fourteen Israeli soldiers and six civilians have been killed in those attacks, including a foreign worker from India.
Defence minister Yoav Gallant met with US senior adviser to President Biden, Amos Hochstein, this week, saying: “We are committed to the diplomatic process, however Hezbollah’s aggression is bringing us closer to a critical point in the decision-making regarding our military activities in Lebanon.”
Hezbollah has previously said it would stop its attacks on Israel if a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.
Amos Hochstein appeared less optimistic about that scenario. “A cease-fire in Gaza doesn’t necessarily mean a cease-fire in south Lebanon. If a war breaks out beyond the southern Lebanese border, it will not be possible to stop it,” during his visit to Beirut this week.
