Review: Rachel Creeger, Ultimate Jewish Mother

The UK's only Orthodox Jewish woman comedian live at JW3

The walls of JW3 positively reverberated with laughter on Sunday night as award-winning comedian Rachel Creeger presented her brand new improvised and interactive comedy show Ultimate Jewish Mother.

A multi-award-winning stand-up comedian, writer, director and broadcaster, and the only Orthodox Jew on the UK comedy circuit, Creeger has appeared on multiple BBC radio and television stations, as well as at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Resplendent in a Superwoman costume, Creeger cheekily connected directly with her audience throughout the show.

At the start, slips of paper were handed out by the woman herself urging everyone to write down their burning questions and pop them in her sizeable chicken soup pot, which she assured us all was her small one, suitable for feeding a few.

In attendance with my own Jewish mother, I noted down a question of my own. Nothing too risky – I wanted to stay on speaking terms! From the unthinkable (how do I tell my Jewish mother that I prefer someone else’s chicken soup?) to the relatable (how do I get my adult children to move out?), Creeger’s quick, witty retorts had us howling.

On the latter she advised to ‘love them intensely’ and ‘be overly concerned about their well-being’ as this is a sure fire way to get them fleeing the nest.

Smart advice indeed. Seems this Jewish mother has all the answers we need.

Warning – her song Under the Sink, sung to the tune of Under the Sea isn’t likely to leave your head anytime soon!

Don’t miss Rachel’s future shows being held throughout July and August, located all around the UK Visit rachelcreeger.com for more details.
