Rob Rinder wins £32k for Jewish charity in Millionaire show trial

This was the moment Rob Rinder raised thousands for a Jewish charity by walking away from a question he could not answer on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

The barrister and TV host named Jewish Blind & Disabled as one of his beneficiaries as he competed in the ITV show’s celebrity edition on Tuesday.

Rinder told the show’s host Jeremy Clarkson that the charity provides a home to his father.

He worked confidently through 11 questions on the show but stumbled on the 12th: “In which James Bond film is 007 shown to kill only one person?”

After call to a friend, the fellow TV host Clare Balding, did not provide a definitive answer, Rinder decided to walk away without answering the question.

It meant he raised £64,000, of which half will go to Jewish Blind & Disabled.

“It is not very often that an independent Jewish charity like Jewish Blind & Disabled gets a mention on prime-time national TV and is awarded a generous prize sum too,” said Jewish Blind & Disabled’s chief executive Lisa Wimborne.

“Having this recognition and support from Rob Rinder, the son of a tenant is all the more special.

“Rob has seen first-hand the impact of our work, what better endorsement can we get?

“His decision to nominate us as one of his chosen charities means so much to us.”
