Rocket from Gaza damages Israeli home

Two projectiles fired from the Palestinian coastal territory hit sites in southern Israel

Rockets launched from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel.

Two rockets fired from Gaza landed in southern Israel, one causing damage to a private home.

The rockets fired Sunday evening landed in the Hof Ashkelon region, according to the Israel Defence Forces. The second rocket landed in an open field.

Prior to the rockets striking Israel, the Code Red alert siren sounded in southern Israeli communities near the border with Gaza.

It was at least the 18th rocket fired from Gaza that hit Israel since the United States announced a week and a half ago that it recognises Jerusalem as the country’s capital.

The rocket landed next to a house in an unnamed southern Israeli community. The outside wall of the house was burned and several tiles on the home were damaged.

It is not known why the Iron Dome missile defence system failed to deploy.

On Friday, a rocket fired at Israel landed in Gaza, reportedly hitting the house of the brother of a senior Hamas official.

Israel’s military generally responds to such attacks.
