Josh Bharier’s first half strike proved to be the difference between the sides on the day, as they built on their opening day 5-2 win over Hendon B.
Happy with their start to the season, though insisting there’s more to come, Brown says: “I’m absolutely delighted. I worked extremely hard over pre-season to put together the right group and they have taken everything on board.
“We are a new team and certainly haven’t reached our full potential. As the season goes on I expect us to get better and better. We have a lot of young talent who have yet to realise their full potential.”
And believing they will challenge for the title come May, he said: “I think there are some good teams in the division this year. King Crown have started well and I expect Sosobad and Shacharit to improve. However, our aim has always been to try and win the league and I expect us to be there or there about come the end of the season.”
Sunday morning’s match against fellow new boys Donetsk wasn’t one for the purist, with the 90 minutes only producing a handful of chances of note. But believing there were worthy of the three points, Brown said: “I think we definitely deserved to win. We controlled the midfield area and although they posed a threat a couple of times due to their pace, we were never really troubled. I think our experience and quality on the ball was the difference and when you have someone like Josh Bharier who’s on absolute fire, it helps too.
“They were difficult to break down, but our shape and discipline was fantastic. I thought we played ever so well. It was a real team performance.”
Donetsk manager Elliot Nussbaum believed his side deserved a point, and wasn’t unhappy with their overall performance. He said: “I couldn’t question the effort and commitment, especially in the second half. Unfortunately we lost our composure and our midfield was slightly overrun. I think we lacked intelligence with the ball and started to panic to early on in the second half.
“They were stronger in the middle of the pitch and used their experience to stop us playing but I think we perhaps deserved a point as we were rarely troubled in defence and had a few good chances to score.”
And despite the defeat, he’s happy with their season has started, saying: “I’m extremely happy with the team so far, the attitude, discipline and team spirit has been excellent and as a young and enthusiastic team they will improve quickly.
“It is a bit too early to speak about our aims for the season, but we are confident that we can compete on this level.”
