RSPCA candidate compares animal slaughter to Holocaust

A candidate seeking election to the ruling council of the animal-rights charity RSPCA has likened to the mass slaughter of farm animals to the Holocaust.

Peta Watson Smith was speaking about factory farming when she made the comments, saying: “I don’t think people always appreciate what is the Holocaust going on behind closed doors.”

In an interview with The Times, she added: “You talk about the Jews. This probably sounds like animal rights, but if you recognise animals as sentient beings, why are we treating them so abysmally on farms?”

The RSPCA has recently antagonised the Jewish community by supporting calls for a ban on kosher slaughter in the UK.
