Rubin defeated in Grand Slam debut

Rubin celebrating his Wimbledon win

American teenager Noah Rubin saw his first ever Grand Slam match end in a comprehensive defeat on Tuesday afternoon.

Qualifying for the US Open as a wildcard, the 18-year-old, who won the junior boys title at Wimbledon last month, was comfortably beaten in straight sets, by Argentine Federico Delbonis 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.

His US Open campaign isn’t over yet though as he has also qualified for the doubles competition where alongside Stefan Kozlov, they take on Americans Jared Donaldson and Michael Russell. A win for Rubin & Kozlov would though put them on course for a second round match against the world number one seeds, Bob and Mike Bryan.

Wednesday evening sees both Shahar Peer and Dudi Sela in action on Court 13.

Peer is third on court when she faces Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in a second round singles match. She is also involved in the women’s doubles where alongside the Netherlands Kiki Bertens, they take on the eighth seeds Czech Andrea Hlavackova and Jie Zheng from China.

Dudi Sela begins his singles campaign against Argentine Carlos Berlocq.
