It’s ruck & roll for community’s schools

Maccabi GB held their latest tag rugby taster session for Jewish Primary School children. The event took place on the pitch at Allianz Park Stadium, home to Saracens Rugby Football Club. 55 children from Sinai School, Independent Jewish Day School and Morasha attended the event.

The participants took part in a 90-minute training session with the Maccabi GB coaching team. Led by Maccabi GB’s Head of Sport, Matt Travers, the young players were put through their paces on the main pitch, which usually plays host to a range of international stars each week.

Despite some very wet weather the youngsters had a great time, following in the footsteps of some the countries best players. A few of the players even managed to sneak in some kicks over the famous Sarries posts, emulating the England No.10 Owen Farrell.

Matt Travers said: “These sorts of opportunities are so rare and we are thankful to Saracens for allowing us to use their fantastic facility. Maccabi GB is always looking for ways to engage the Community in sporting activities and to showcase the sport in this environment to over 50 young players can only benefit the youngsters. We are looking to develop our rugby programme over the coming months and hopefully one day these young players will go on represent Team Maccabi GB Rugby at an international event.”
