Sadiq Khan has been invited to Israel by the mayor of Tel Aviv, just hours before he formally succeeded Boris Johnson.

Wishing “mazeltov” to the new London mayor, Ron Huldai, who last year hosted Boris Johnson for talks, said he would be “honoured” to host his successor in Israel’s second city “at your first convenience”.

In a letter, he wrote: “Over the past few years, our two cities developed strong ties in the fields of startup and economic development, culture, art, and urban practices. The deep relationship between my administration and London’s municipality is highly appreciated, and I am sure that this relationship will deepen even further during your term.”

He said he was “most pleased” to hear Khan’s clear condemnation of anti-Semitism during the campaign ad wished him luck with the “many great challenges that await”.
