Salford man, 65, questioned by police over alleged sexual assault

A 65-year old man from an area of Salford with a large Orthodox Jewish population was being questioned by police officers this week after a female patient alleged that he sexually assaulted her whilst he was working as a doctor.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the man, who has not been named, was arrested after the force received reports that the woman had been “sexually assaulted a number of times whilst attending routine doctor’s appointments” in Broughton Park.

Midgal Emunah, the Jewish charity supporting victims of sexual assault and abuse, tweeted the reports, adding: “If you have been affected by this crime or are in need of advice and support, please reach out to our trained advisers.”

GMP said the 65-year old “was working as a doctor when the offences took place,” and that the assaults were “reported to have happened over a number of years”.

Detective Inspector Thomas Willis said: “Any sexual assault is deeply traumatising for any victim and I want to reiterate GMP’s firm commitment to investigating reports thoroughly.

“We have a team of specialist officers supporting the woman through this distressing time, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for coming forward and showing true bravery.”
