Secondary school girls take centre court

JFS pupils line-up ahead of the badminton tournament

Maccabi GB held their lastest school sports tournaments earlier this week with secondary schools girls competing in both badminton and table tennis events.

JFS hosted the event, which welcomed five schools and a total of 150 girls to compete.

The event was split into Year Groups with Years 7, 8, 9 and seniors all competing separately. Each team played each another in a league basis with the overall winning team declared champion.

In the Year 7 age category, Immanuel College won the badminton group with a clean sweep of victories, winning all their six, whilst the table tennis section was won by Yavneh, who beat Immanuel College in the deciding game.

In the Year 8 age group the badminton was won by Yavneh College, Immanuel College claimed top spot in the table tennis.

A close Year 9 badminton group was won by JFS, who just managed to beat Yavneh College to first position. Immanuel once more were victorious in the table tennis.

The senior event of both the badminton and table tennis was dominated by Immanuel College, who won both groups to wrap up a very successful day for their teams.

Matt Travers, Maccabi GB Head of Sport, said: “This is been the most popular Girls Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament to date with over 150 girls here today to compete. Maccabi GB has been supporting both Badminton and Table Tennis through our ‘Sport for Everyone’ Programme and to engage so many young players who play with such enthusiasm and enjoyment bodes very well for the future of these sporting programmes.”
