Sela and Schwartzman enjoy mixed fortunes at Nottingham

Tennis players in Nottingham for final Wimbledon warm-up

Dudi Sela beat Kyle Edmund in impressive style

Dudi Sela’s final warm-up preparations for next week’s Wimbledon Championships have got off to a winning start.

The 31-year-old lost the first set 6-4, though broke early in the second to go 3-0 up. The remainder of the set saw serve held from both players as Sela held on to win 6-3 and take the match to a third and deciding set.

The Israeli fought off two break points early on, before breaking himself in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. Crucially then holding his serve to go 4-2 up, he broke Hernych’s serve again to go 5-2 up, and then serving for the match, did so to take the set 6-2. He next takes on Portugal’s João Sousa.

Elsewhere, Argentine Diego Schwartzman’s Nottingham Open was a short lived affair, as he was beaten 6-0, 6-3 by American Ernesto Escobedo.

Also in action in Nottingham is Jonathan Erlich, who along with GB’s Colin Fleming, take on GB’s Dominic Inglot and Canadian Daniel Nestor. The Israeli-Scottish duo were beaten semi-finalists at last week’s Queen’s Championships.

Qualifiers for Wimbledon also got underway on Monday, though heavy rain meant a delay to proceedings, meaning none of the three Israelis, Amir Weintraub, Julia Glushko and Deniz Khazaniuk were due to play on Monday.
