Sela handed tough US Open opener

Dudi Sela is taking part in his first warm-up event ahead of this year's Wimbledon Championships

Dudi Sela has been handed a tricky first round match at this year’s US Open.

The Israeli, who entered the top world 100 rankings last week, faces the 40th seed, Uruguayan, Pablo Cuevas. The 30-year-old will be making his seventh appearance at Flushing Meadows, where his best run in the competition has seen him reach the second round on five occasions – including the last two years.

The match will take place on Day One of the tournament, on Monday, with them due third on court 15.

Sela will be Israel’s only representative in the singles competition, after Amir Weintraub, Shahar Peer and Julia Glushko were all knocked out in the qualifying rounds. Jonathan Erlich is set to compete in the men’s doubles competition.
