Sela knocked out in first round at Queens

Injury forced Sela out of Wimbledon

Dudi Sela’s preparations for Wimbledon got off to a poor start after he suffered a first round exit at the Aegon Championships.

Up against qualifier James Duckworth, the Israeli got off to a perfect start, winning the first set 6-0 in just 17 minutes.

However, it all went downhill for him from thereon. The Aussie took the second set on a tie break 7-5, in a set which lasted two minutes shy of an hour, before Duckworth secured the win in the third and final set, winning it 6-4.

Jonathan Erlich was though victorious as he and South African Kevin Anderson are through to the second round of the men’s doubles after they beat Australian Matthew Ebden and Pole Mariusz Fyrstenberg 6-3, 6-4. They next take on Philipine Treat Huey and Great Britain’s Dominic Inglot in the second round.

Over in Birmingham, Shahar Peer begins her Aegon Classic Championship campaign against Frenchwoman Kritina Mladenovic.
