Sela out of French Open

Dudi Sela’s suffered a first round exit at the French Open on Monday afternoon.

Up against German qualifier Dustin Brown in what was a rain-affected tie which began on Sunday morning, the Israeli won the first set on a tie break, though lost the second and third sets, 6-4, 7-6.

Tied at 1-1 in the fourth set, the match was then suspended due to rain, but serving at break point, Sela started the resumption of the match in fine form, before taking the set 6-4 to level the match at two sets all.

However, while both players broke throughout the fifth and final set, it was Brown who kept his composure to serve out at 6-4.

He is though also taking part in the men’s doubles where, teaming up with Ukrainian Denys Molchanov, they take on Frenchmen Stephane Robert and Alexandre Sidorenko.

Amir Weintraub and Julia Glushko were knocked out of the qualifying stages last week, while Shahar Peer is injured.

Israel’s other representative Jonathan Erlich is also in the doubles event, teaming up with GB’s Colin Fleming. They take on Spain’s Inigo Cervantes and Italian Paolo Lorenzi in their first round clash.

Argentine Diego Schwartzman also suffered a first round exit on Monday. Up against compatriot Guido Pella, he fell to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 loss. He though is also in doubles action, teaming up with Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili. They take on Croatian Ivo Karlovic and Indian Purav Raja.

Other Jewish interest lies saw Italian Camila Giorgi, book her place in the second round of the women’s singles, thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 win over France’ s Alize Lim.
