Dudi Sela suffered a first round exit at the US Open in the early hours of Tuesday morning

Dudi Sela’s US Open campaign is over after he suffered a first round defeat against Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas.

Sela was Israel’s sole singles representative at Flushing Meadows, though was beaten by the world number 40 in a match which lasted just over two hours. Losing the first set 6-2, he tied up the match by winning the second set 6-3, though lost the third and fourth 6-4, 6-1.

His exit means Israel’s last player at the tournament is Jonathan Erlich, who will be teaming up with New Zealand’s Artem Sitak in the men’s doubles. They face Italians Marco Cecchinato and
Andreas Seppi in their first round clash.

Elsewhere, Italian Camila Giorgi begins her singles campaign later on Tuesday when she takes on Swede Johanna Larsson.
