Sela through to last eight in Shenzhen

Israeli beats German fifth seed to reach quarter-finals in China.

Sela celebrates his last-16 win in Shenzhen

Dudi Sela booked his place into the quarter-finals of the Shenzhen Open on Thursday morning after he beating Mischa Zverev in third sets.

In just the third meeting between the two, with both players having a win each, Sela broke early in the first set of their match on the Centre Court, and then held serve to win it 6-3.

The German, seeded five for the tournament, looked to be struggling with an injury as the second set progressed, and with the first 11 games all going with serve, broke the Israeli, as he served to take the set to a tie-break, to level the match out.

However, Sela claimed two vital breaks in the third, leaving him to serve out for the third – and match – which he duly did, sealing it 6-3. He next takes on Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov for a place in the last four.

Sela will be back on court later on Thursday for another match against Zverev, when he and Brazilian Andre Sa take on Zverev and Brazilian Marcelo Melo for a place in the semi-finals of the doubles competition.
