Senior Conservatives praise hard-line speech by Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister
Sharren Haskel warns of 'out of control migration' in the UK during speech at the Conservative Friends of Israel reception at Tory conference
Senior Conservatives heaped praise on a speech delivered by Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel, in which she suggested Britain is suffering from “out of control migration, particularly from Islamist communities hostile to your values.”
Referencing last week’s horrific Heaton Park Synagogue attack, she claimed Israel had warned the UK government that “antisemitism is out of control in the UK” and this would lead to tragedy.
In a hard-line speech to Tory activists attending the annual Conservative Friends of Israel reception, Haskel said a violent attack in the UK was inevitable after the police and government allowed “tens of thousands of Muslims and left-wing activists” to march on the streets, “chanting antisemitic hate” and “supporting Hamas.”
The Israeli politician had met with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch earlier at the party’s conference in Manchester.
Her speech at Sunday evening’s CFI event, which drew over 500 attendees, was widely praised, including by speakers Priti Patel and Lord Pickles.
Paying tribute to the two British Jews murdered in the Yom Kippur attack, Haskel said:”How often did we warn the government that antisemitism is out of control in the UK? That it would lead to tragedy? ”
She added:”That if tens of thousands of Muslims and left-wing activists are allowed to march in the streets, chanting antisemitic hate, calling for death, whilst supporting Hamas, and the police and the government does absolutely nothing to stop them, the next step was inevitable. ”
A member of the Knesset for the New Hope party, having previously served as a member of the National Unity Party, the 41 year-old Canadian-born politician offered her own fierce criticism of the UK government, and British society as she spoke.
She claimed:”I must also speak with honesty about a challenge to these islands. Britain is being changed — and not always for the better.
“Out-of-control migration, particularly from Islamist communities hostile to your values, is reshaping your society.
“It is fuelling antisemitism on your streets. It is straining your social cohesion. ”
She claimed Israel had “learned a hard truth: you cannot appease extremism.”
“You must confront it,” she added. “Because once extremists believe they can dictate your politics, they will not stop until they control it.” Haskel said the ability to defend your country “does not rely solely on your military equipment, or your fighter jets, or the technology and intelligence you have.”
She said, “It relies on people and the love for their country , culture, history, and values.”
The Israeli said that at UK universities, ” kids are taught to be ashamed of your history and traditions.”
Praising Winston Churchill as “the greatest Conservative leader and a Zionist,” she said that when Hitler was about to take France and be the master of Europe, he drew upon the Book of Maccabees—”the story of Jewish courage, defiance, and survival in the face of tyranny”.
To cheers from the crowd, Haskel then added:”Let us stand shoulder to shoulder—Israel and the United Kingdom—defending freedom, defending justice, and ensuring that the light of Judeo-Christian values continues to guide our nations in the face of darkness.
“Be proud of your flag, whether that be the Union flag, the English flag – don’t ever forget Saint George is buried in Israel – and be proud of your religion.
“Be the Party again of God, King and Country.”
She also made a lengthy criticism of the Labour government and aligned Israel firmly with the Tories.
“Let the record reflect that when Labour rushed to demand an ‘immediate ceasefire’ before a single hostage had been released,” said Haskell. While “the Conservatives said: not until Hamas is defeated, not until Israeli children are safe,” she added.
“When Labour put an arms embargo on Israel, Conservatives said: Israel has the same right to defend its people as Britain has always defended its own. ”
When the International Criminal Court disgracefully issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Gallant -as if the leader of the Middle East’s only democracy could be equated with the genocidal terrorists of Hamas — Conservatives said: no, we will not legitimise this grotesque moral inversion.”
Turning to Palestine recognition, Haskel said:”That act was not diplomacy. It was appeasement. It was not a gesture of peace. It was a reward for terror.
“And it is to the credit of the Conservative Party that you recognised it for what it was.”
