A Shomrim volunteer has been hospitalised after suffering facial injuries in an alleged assault in Stamford Hill yesterday evening, as the police investigate.

Officers were called to Spring Hill at around 8.30pm on Tuesday to reports a man believed to be in his 20s had been assaulted.

Police said no arrests have been made, but enquiries are ongoing.

The volunteer was responding to an incident involving criminal damage to two vans, when he was “viciously assaulted”, according to the neighbourhood watch group Shomrim

Chaim Hochhauser, from the Shomrim group, said the incident was the first attack against a volunteer since the group was set up in 2008.

He said: “Out of nowhere, he punched him in his eye and ran off into the park.

“The family were quite upset. It’s first time we have had an attack.”
