Simon Cowell has been bombarded with images of dead Palestinian children on Twitter after pro-Palestinian activists picked up on a £90,000 donation he made last year to the charity Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF).

Campaigners have accused the X-Factor mogul of sponsoring the Israeli assault on Gaza.

One Tweeter named Leema told Cowell, “You have blood on ur hands.”

Another Twitter user named kik, sent him an image of a father clutching his dead baby, tweeting, “u donated money to israel to do this. Now imagine this was ur child.

Cowell has embraced the Jewish faith of the mother of his child, Lauren Silverman. He was brought up Catholic but his father’s mother was Jewish refugee from Poland.

Other tweets accused Cowell of being part of a “Zionist” plot and submitting to orders from his “masters in Tel Aviv.”

FIDF, established by Holocaust survivors in 1981, says on its website that it offers Israeli soldiers “love, support and care in an effort to ease the burden they carry on behalf of the Jewish community worldwide.”

Cowell made the donation at a Beverly Hills fundraiser hosted by TV mogul Haim Saban, which raised more than $20million for the FIDF from its 1,000 guests. The singer Lionel Ritchie was also in attendance.

The news comes amid fears of mounting anti-Semitism across Europe as hostilities between Israel and Hamas intensify.
