Sollosi double sends Redbridge into quarter-finals

Two goals from Sam Sollosi sent Redbridge through to the quarter-finals of the Peter Morrison Cup – to set up a mouthwatering tie against Hendon.

On a superb playing surface at Hadley, Redbridge were up for the tie from the first minute.

Harmen were well organised at the back and very physical all over the pitch, but were not allowing Redbridge any space. The first half was one of frustration with the Harmen goalkeeper pulling off save after save from Summers, Garfinkle and Sam Sollosi. The first half ended with the score at 0-0 in what was a physical but fair first half, with Redbridge completely on top.

Redbridge just needed to keep doing what they were good at and the goals would come and sure enough, the opening goal came early in the second half with a smartly taken goal by the game’s outstanding player, Sam Sollosi. The game opened up and the tackles were getting more and more desperate by the Harmen defenders.

After about 20 minutes, the game’s first talking point saw Steve Summers taken out by a Harmen defender. Already on a yellow, the referee had a big decision to make but having realised the player was on a yellow, Summers spoke to the referee and talked him out of getting him sent off – a truly Mensch-of-the-Match decision.

With that act of kindness came another one with the Redbridge defence playing Harmen onside and in a one-on-one situation, the Redbridge goalkeeper, Ross Weinrabe, pulled off a superb save

The crucial second goal also came from the magical boots of Sam Sollosi, an easy finish after one of his trademark slalom runs which seemed to knock the stuffing out of Harmen.

Redbridge manager Jon Jacobs said: “The game ended as a comfortable 2-0 win and now the chance of cup revenge against Hendon.”
