Special evening at JW3 showcases the lives of three female pianists
Harriet Cohen, Myra Hess and Irene Scharrer are brought to life through music and conversation
In collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music and the British Library, JW3 invites you to uncover the lives of three remarkable female pianists: Harriet Cohen, Myra Hess and Irene Scharrer through live music and discussion.
Play Nice is an opportunity to delve into their navigation of the classical music industry, World Wars and Jewish identity in the twentieth century. Listen to live performances of significant works from their careers by Academy students, see materials from the British Library’s Music Collections, and hear discussions from a panel of passionate academics about their political-musical challenges and achievements.
Above all you will experience their resilience and embrace of Jewish identity.
The programme features Cohen’s only published work, Scharrer’s meticulous Chopin and an iconic Hess Beethoven performance.
Play Nice is at JW3 on 23 February at 7pm, For tickets visit jw3.org
