Special prayers mark ‘remarkable’ Queen’s record reign

The Queen was today hailed “a truly remarkable and outstanding role model” as the community hailed Her Majesty’s record-breaking reign.

The Queen today overtakes her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria, as the country’s longest-serving Monarch, having served for more than 63 years and 216 days.

Board President Jonathan Arkush said: “We would like to send the warm congratulations of the Board of Deputies to her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her becoming the longest reigning monarch. She has served the country with great dedication and has been a true friend of the Jewish community since ascending to the throne 63 years, seven months and two days ago. We hope that she continues to reign in good health for many years to come.”

The Chief Rabbi – who compiled a special prayer recited at shuls under his auspices last Shabbat – said: “The Queen is a truly remarkable and outstanding role model, whom we are truly blessed to have as our Sovereign. Our wishes to her come from across the Jewish community in the UK and the Commonwealth.”

The Reform movement also composed released a prayer, as did Rabbi Alexandra Wright of the liberal Jewish Synagogue.

Last night at JW3, Zaki cooper, former assistant press secretary to the queen and head of external relational at the chief rabbis office, gave a talk about the Queen and community.
