UK Wine Club Honest Grapes is a wine merchant on a mission to make the world of wine simple. Founded by renowned wine expert Tom Harrow and technology investor Nathan Hill, Honest Grapes is widely recognised as one of the UK’s best and most innovative wine clubs. You can imagine our delight then when we heard they were launching a set of high-end kosher wines!
They’re an award-winning team that prides itself on ethics and corporate responsibility, having been recognised as The Drinks Business’ Green Retailer of the Year in 2018, and more recently as the IndyBest Online Wine Shop for the third year running.
Honest Grapes is always finding unique opportunities and experiences for Club Members to enjoy. One day they’re offering membership of a Hospices de Beaune barrel or the chance to crowdfund a barrel of Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin, while the next minute launching an exclusive Grand Cru production in Saint Emilion. At the heart of everything they do is a desire to find unique, interesting wines from off the beaten track.
It was only natural then that sooner or later Honest Grapes would turn their talents to kosher wine. As many wine collectors will know, finding great kosher wine in the UK for special occasions and family events leaves much to be desired. Their aim is to make great wines that happen to be kosher, rather than kosher wine that happens to be drinkable!
Now in their 4th vintage of kosher production, Honest Grapes has teamed up with two of their favourite growers – the esteemed 100-point Saint-Emilion winemaker Jonathan Maltus and Burgundy superstar Etienne de Montille – to make hands down the best kosher wine available to UK consumers.
This means access to some of the greatest wines from the most coveted parcels in Bordeaux and top premier cru sites in Burgundy’s Volnay, Pommard and Puligny-Montrachet.
The process is simple. They are crowdfunded by syndicates in volumes of 2+ barrels (600+ bottles) and made available at the best price to syndicate members. All wines are supervised by Rabbi Akiva Padwa, Director of Certification at KLBD, and project managed by Nathan on behalf of the syndicate.
The 2020 kosher production syndicate is well under way, with almost 80% of shares allocated already. Honest Grapes is now looking to fulfil the last the few shares.
