A Stamford Hill special needs school is set for a bumper windfall – after its fundraising dinner at Lord’s Cricket Ground raised £230,000.

Over 200 guests from the Jewish community came together in St John’s Wood for last week’s event, held in aid of children’s charity Side by Side – whose inclusive nursery and school caters for over 80 pupils.

Guests were treated to an access-all-areas tour of the storied Home of Cricket, as well as a banquet dinner and refreshments served by professional mixologists.

Supporters of the school – including leading QC David Wolfson – also enjoyed entertainment from TV magician and illusionist Nick Einhorn.

Its chair of governors, Bondcare boss Jacob Sorotzkin, paid tribute to the “unprecedented support and generosity” of attendees, who between them conjured up a total of almost a quarter of a million pounds.

Mr Sorotzkin said: “We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the unprecedented support and generosity that the Jewish community has shown for the wonderful children of Side by Side.

“This fantastic event has been a tribute to them.”

The charity hopes the funds raised from the evening will help maintain and extend the specialist services already offered by its school and nursery, which prides itself on its Orthodox Jewish ethos.
