Stuart Polak will become honorary president of Conservative Friends of Israel after vacating the director’s seat in early October.

Polak, who has headed CFI for 25 years, was elevated to the House of Lords last week. He described the honour as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enter the House of lords which will enable me to continue to advocate for Israel”.

He announced today that he will retire from his role on 9 October but had been asked by the board of directors to become honorary president.

He added: “CFI has an amazingly talented young professional team and, together with the directors and the new constituted parliamentary group, the future is exciting and I look forward to continuing to play my part going forward.”
