Students tour Israel and West Bank before going back to uni
UJS run two trips – ‘The Real Deal’ and ‘Let’s Talk Business’ for students of all faiths, to Israel and the West Bank
The Union of Jewish Students limbered up for Freshers’ Week fresh from sending dozens of participants to Israel and the Palestinian territories during an enhanced summer programme that included artist Banksy’s ‘Walled Off’ hotel.
During the first week of September students met David Quarrey, Britain’s ambassador to Israel, as well as campaigners, activists and philanthropists working with Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
The Union led two concurrent trips – ‘The Real Deal’ and ‘Let’s Talk Business’ – taking both Jewish and non-Jewish students to both Israel and the West Bank, where a highlight was Banksy’s Bethlehem hotel, built beside the wall separating Israel from the West Bank.
UJS communications manager Hannah Sharon said the students had offered “thoughtful and observant reflections,” adding: “We got to see a country that we have been to many times before in a new light, which was overwhelmingly powerful.”
