Hendon began the season in formidable form as they hit the new-look Greens for seven.

Ari Last and Dovi Fehler both helped themselves to hat-tricks, while Yehuda Nevies was also on target.

Hendon manager David Garbacz told jewishnews.co.uk: “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season . We scored lots of great goals including two fine hat-tricks and a debut goal for young Yehuda Nevies. The only small downside was a bit of early rustiness at the back which caused us to concede two goals in the first half – a few weeks into the season that won’t be happening.”

“The two stand-out performances were from Dovi Fehler and Ari Last who both started the season in superb style . With one Premier league season now under his belt Dovi is a much improved player and can go on to score bundles this year. The rest of the team were also very solid and overall it was an excellent team effort.
“Faithfold were still in it for large periods of the match and competed well . We only really killed the game off on the last 20 minutes. They do seem to be a much changed outfit this season but could still surprise a few teams in this league . For us the important thing was getting off to a winning start – we achieved that and more so no complaints.”

M Charles and D Cohen scored for the visitors.

Oakwood got their season off to a winning start thanks to goals from Guy Helman and David Woolman.

Oakwood manager Daniel Kristall told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a great all-round performance against a decent Lions team and I;m delighted to keep a clean sheet. It gives a good platform to build on going into the Yom Tov break.”

A hat-trick from Daniel Orgel helped Sosobad to this opening day win, James Law and Adam Goodman were also on target.

Manager Daniel Shafron told jewishnews.co.uk: “This was the start we wanted as it was important to hit the ground running. The team played very well and worked hard for each other. This is only the beginning and now we prepare for next week against Los Blancos.”

OAKWOOD B 4 LOS BLANCOS 1
Jacob Richler Kleinman was the star of his show as his four goals helped the O’s to this win. O’s manager Jason Stein told jewishnews.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted with the win in what was arguably the best performance of my tenure at the club.

“We executed our game plan perfectly and the players did everything asked of them. The attitude on and off the pitch was first class. It was a pleasure to be a part of. Some teams in a new division, and 1-0 down after two minutes, might have crumbled but we didn’t. We just got up off the floor and got on with it.
“In some ways it’s a shame that the simcha break has come when it has, but I know my apple and honey will taste better after that performance. Thanks to Los Blancos too who are a good bunch of lads.”

SPEC FC 2 LONDON ROVERS 3
London Rovers began life in Division One with a win – though had to do it the hard way, seeing out the win with ten men.

Lee Goldberg, Adam Kay and Josh Bharier scored the goals for Jeremy Brown’s side, though had to play the final 20 minutes with ten men after Alex Weiler saw red for a professional foul.

Brown told jewishnews.co.uk: “We were so poor in the first half I had to make a couple of changes at half-time. Being 2-0 down at half-time, I still believed we could win the game. I know it’s not easy when you have five players making their debut – it takes time to gel, but we showed so much character in the second half, not only to get it back to 2-2, but finding a winner after we had gone down to 10 men. It’s a really important win to start off what will be a difficult season with three points! I also thought the referee, Andy Myreson was fantastic, he got everything right.”

Paul Harris and Zack Neiman scored for SPEC, for whom manager Ricky Lawrence told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a match we never should have lost. 2-0 up at half time and we just haven’t got going in the second half. Fair play to London Rovers who made sure they weren’t going to give up their unbeaten record so easily and they really stepped up their game in the second half. For us though, it’s three points thrown away.”

Catford dug deep to earn themselves a point.

New Catford manager Jeff Gotch led by example as scored a stunning free-kick to put them ahead, but Faithfold battled back and found themselves leading 2-1 with just five minutes left on the clock. However, Jamie Sinai ensured a share of the spoils.

Gotch told jewishnews.co.uk: “All in all it was a fair result and either team could have won it. Now onto next week against Temple Fortune, where I hope we can continue to improve.”

Adam Glekin’s side got their season off to a flying start as goals from Jono Nesbitt, James Neidle, Ben David, Gideon Barth and an own goal saw them to this emphatic win.

Scrabble’s return to the League was a winning one as goals from Zack McLeod, Adam Pearlman and Mitchell Green saw them to the points.

Scrabble manager Ray Abrahams told jewishnews.co.uk: “I’m delighted that we’ve got off to a good start and opened our account in the league and put the three points on the board which is the important thing at this stage of the season. The boys played really well today as we gained our third win in a row following pre-season.

“We set the tempo of the game by taking the lead in the first few minutes and raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time. We found it hard to get our game going again in the second half against a fired up Bilbaum side but the three points are what counts and we are delighted.”
