Sunday Masters review – week 16

The Raiders got 2014 off to a flying start as they scored 11 goals, while the Lions moved to within a point off top spot in Division Two, writes Jeremy Silverstone.

North London Raiders kicked off the new year with a clear signal of their intentions with an emphatic 11-0 win over Scrabble, opening up a three-point gap at the top of the table with a game in hand over their rivals. Kevin Lotzof topped the scorers list with four, closely followed by Tony Plaskow who bagged a hat-trick. Wayne Davidson scored twice, with Paul Katz and Gary Cohen goals completing the scoring.

Meanwhile, Southgate Harmen were beaten 3-2 by Waldaf Town, with Richard Davis returning from his honeymoon to snatch two goals, including a penalty, to add to Adam Kaye’s strike. Daniel Hodes and Paul Stein replied for Harmen.

Lions saw off the challenge from Temple Fortune as a brace from Simon Black and an own goal earned them a 3-0 win.

EDRS kept up their challenge, beating Brady B 5-1. Martin Seifert scored twice, with Russell Rich, Tony Platman, and Phil Silver. Brian Deal grabbed Brady’s consolation.
