Mark Wagman scored twice in Brady’s cup win over St John’s Wood

The Maccabi Masters Cup competitions were in full swing this weekend with fixtures played in the Henry Swerner and Nathan Horwitz cups, writes Jeremy Silverstone.

HENRY SWERNER MMFL CUP:

Glenthorne A and North London Raiders progressed through to the quarter-final stages of after wins over Scrabble and Southgate Harmen respectively.

Glenthorne A enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win with all five goals coming from Gary Adams, whilst Raiders had to thank Gary Cohen, who scored twice, and Paul Katz for the goals that edged out Harmen in a hard-fought 3-2 win. Andy Hearn and Alex Bourne replied for Harmen.

Despite their indifferent league form, Brady A cruised into the semi-finals with a 5-0 thumping of Division 2 St John’s Wood Tigers, courtesy of  Mark Wagman’s double, along with strikes from Paul Allen, Nick Collins and Tim Green.

NATHAN HORWITZ CUP:

Marshside progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Glenthorne United B. Despite going down to ten men, goals from Paul Shamplina and Leon Pernikis – direct from a corner – saw Marshside through.
