Sunday Masters review – week 20

The Raiders spurned the chance to secure the Division One title, while Lions extended their lead at the top of Division Two, writes Jeremy Silverstone.

DIVISION ONE:

TABLE
FIXTURES & RESULTS

With just a single fixture remaining in this season’s Maccabi Masters League Division 1, the outcome is still undecided, as favourites North London Raiders missed out on the chance to secure the title as they went down 3-1 to their main rivals, Waldaf Town.

James Kaye put Waldaf ahead in the first half, and they extended their lead after the break through Hezi Yechiel’s free-kick and Jeremy Leigh’s goal. And despite a late consolation from Ashley Davidson, Waldaf took the points leaving Raiders still needing a point from their final game, against Brady A, to be crowned champions. A defeat for Raiders in that game would mean a play-off against today’s opponents, Waldaf Town, to decide the destination of this season’s trophy.

In the top flight’s other match, Scrabble finished off their league season with a 3-2 win over Southgate Harmen. Charlie Bernstein scored twice, with Jeremy Teacher also on target for Scrabble. Andrew Binstock and Alex Bourne replied for Harmen.

DIVISION TWO:
TABLE
FIXTURES & RESULTS

Lions extended their lead at the top of the table as a hat-trick from Darren Coon, along with Danny Goldman’s strike earned them a 4-1 win over Hendon Harriers, for whom Marc Schneiderman scored.

And despite going two down to goals from Paul Shamplina and Fara Moghim, Glenthorne B came back to win 4-2 against Marshside with two goals apiece from Greg Morris and Gary Swerner.
