Sunday Masters review – week 21

There was cup action in both cup competitions, while Lions moved six points clear at the top of Division Two, writes Jeremy Silverstone.

HENRY SWERNER CUP:

North London Raiders’ bid for a league and cup double was kept on track this week as goals from Jon Isaacs and Lloyd Becker gave them a 2-0 win against Waldaf Town in this quarter-final tie.

NATHAN HORWITZ DIVISION TWO CUP:

Glenthorne A and EDRS both made it through to the next round. Glenthorne dispatched St John’s Wood Tigers 4-1 thanks to goals from Sid Shaw, Jason Levy and Gary Adams’ double. They next face London Lions in a mouthwatering quarter-final encounter. Mark Abrahams scored Tigers’ sole reply.

EDRS walloped Temple Fortune 7-1 courtesy of a hat-trick from Martin Seifert, plus goals from Mark Kingston, James Bloom, Russell Rich and Phil Silver to ensure their place in the semi-finals. James Ryan scored Fortune’s consolation.

Lions continued their good form with a 5-0 demolition of Glenthorne B. Bradley Lazarus helped himself to a hat-trick, with Simon Barr and Marc Morris also on target. The win leaves themselves six points clear at the top, albeit having played five more games than favourites Glenthorne A.

Elsewhere, Brady B thumped Marshside 6-2, thanks to a hat-trick from Brian Deal, double from Pete Sugarman and strike from Martin Schultz. Spencer Brookner and John Nesbitt replied for Marshside.
