Sunday Masters review – week 23

There was 22-penalty shoot-out in the Cup, convincing wins for Brady and Chigwell in Division One, while Zig Zag Marshside kept alive their Division Two title hopes in the latest round of Masters League action, writes Stuart Lustigman

NATHAN HORWITZ DIVISION TWO CUP:

Ex-Wingate FC and Maccabiah goalkeeper Gary Grant was the hero but not for his exploits between the posts as the tie between Temple Fortune and Hendon Harriers was decided by a penalty shoot-out.

James Ryan and Alex Mamouri scored for Temple Fortune, with Andy Diamond and Geoff Isaacs scoring for Hendon Harriers. It then took a 22 penalty shootout before Hendon Harriers progressed to the next round 7-6 with Gary Grant scoring the winning penalty!

A Laurence Swerner hat-trick and Scott Warren strike gave Brady Maccabi a convincing 4-1 win over Waldaf Town, Richard Reggel netted Town’s consolation. Goals from Steve Summers, Russell Yershon and Glenn Davis secured a 3-1 victory for Chigwell over Scrabble Harmen, Stefan Simons’ scored Harmen’s consolation from the penalty spot, while HMH recorded their fifth win of the season thanks to a brace from Lewis Cohen, in their 2-0 win over Faithfold.

Zig Zag Marshside’s fine form continued as a second half Darren Coon goal was enough to beat St Johns Wood Tigers 1-0 and keep alive their outside chances of winning the division.
