Sunday Masters review – week 29

There was action in both cup competitions as places at Wingate & Finchkey FC up for grabs, writes Jeremy Silverstone

HENRY SWERNER MACCABI MASTERS CUP:

This year’s Maccabi Masters Cup Final will be contested by North London Raiders and Waldaf Town on Sunday 10 May at Wingate & Finchley FC (ko 4.30pm).

Newly-crowned league champions North London Raiders will be seeking a league and cup double after they beat Chigwell 5-1 to reach the final, courtesy of Adam Levene’s double, along with strikes from Danny Daggers, Wayne Davidson and Jon Isaacs. Paul Gold scored Chigwell’s consolation.

Meanwhile, two first-half goals from Jerry Leigh and Alex Bourne were enough to ensure that Waldaf saw off the challenge from second division Zigzag Marshside, and despite Faramarz Moghim converting a penalty for Marshside after the break, Waldaf held on to secure their place at this season’s showcase event.

NATHAN HORWITZ DIVISION TWO CUP:

With Maccabi London Lions already confirmed as one of the finalists in the Nathan Horwitz MMFL Division 2 Cup Final at Wingate on Tuesday 12 May (ko 7.30pm), all that remained was to decide their opponents. And despite falling behind to Dean Ingram’s 21st minute goal for Temple Fortune, three late strikes from Darren Leventhal, Micky Nathan and Paul van Gelder earned Glenthorne United that place as they triumphed 3-1.
