Division two champions London Lions suffered a comprehensive opening day loss

The opening day of action in the Masters League saw a five-star performance from Scrabble in division one, and a crashing defeat for last season’s double-winning Lions, writes Jem Silverstone.

A new-look Scrabble recorded an impressive win over Southgate Harmen, their victory coming thanks to a hat-trick from Matt Lunn, along with strikes from Stefan Simons and Jonny Summerfield.

North London Raiders and Waldaf Town played out a 1-1 draw, with Tony Plaskow scoring for the Raiders.

Double-winning London Maccabi Lions came down to earth with a thud as Glenthorne A showed they’ll be a force to be reckoned with this season. Greg Morris helped himself to a hat-trick, while David Michaels was also on target in a 4-0 win.

A brace from Yossi Arvatz, coupled with a strike from David Morris saw Hendon Harriers win 3-2 at Brady Maccabi B.

Marshside bounced back from a losing half-time deficit to beat Temple Fortune 2-1. Jeremy Fess had fired Fortune in front, though Marshside emerged victorious, with guest David Hyman netting the winner.
