Israeli firm invents £10,000 ‘Rolls-Royce of smart-phones’

Charging just less than £10,000 for “the Rolls-Royce of smart-phones” is either the ultimate in Israeli chutzpah or money well-spent.

Israeli firm Sirin Labs, set up by a Kazakh entrepreneur, says buyers of the ‘Solarin’ phone will be protected from cyber-attacks by spy-grade privacy technology which is “currently unavailable outside the agency world”.

The company has used chip-to-chip 256-bit AES encryption in its new Android device, which it says is comparable to the level of security protecting military communications.

Chief executive Tal Cohen said cyber-attacks were “endemic across the globe [and] this trend is on the increase,” adding that Solarin gave customers “greater confidence and the reassurance necessary to handle business-critical information”.

The device also incorporates a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a 23.8-megapixel camera, a 5.5” high-resolution screen and promises superior Wi-Fi connectivity.

Despite the eye-watering price tag, however, it is still far from the world’s most expensive mobile phone, that title having been claimed by the bejewelled $310,000 Signature Cobra.
