Super Sunday for Team GB at the Maccabiah

Sunday saw Team GB’s junior football team claim an historic gold medal, while there was also plenty of medals won on the Netanya tennis courts…

*TENNIS:

Open mixed doubles final:
Richard Moss & Jacqui Boyd (South Africa) beat Daniel Skripnik & Saray Sterenback 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 – won GOLD

Junior:
Mixed doubles final:
Josh Paris & Rebecca Smaller beat Ram Kapach & Sean Lodzki 6-1, 6-2 – won GOLD

Boy’s singles final:
Joshua Paris lost 6-2, 6-3 to Mor Bulis – won SILVER

Girls single’s bronze match:
Rebecca Smaller beat Madeline Kahn 6-0, 6-1 – won BRONZE

*FOOTBALL:

U16 Junior final:

Team GB 0 Israel 0 (AET – GB won 4-2 on penalties) – win GOLD
Team GB made more history on Sunday afternoon by becoming the first U16 GB football team to win gold at a Maccabiah. Having frustrated the hosts during normal and extra time, then then held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out to secure a famous win.

Goalkeeper Jake Lewis saved twice, while Scott Kashket, Aaron Goldman, Dominic Feldman and Adam Ellis all converted from the spot.

U18 youth bronze medal match:
Team GB 3 Argentina 0 – GB win BRONZE
Joel Nathan’s side ended their campaign on a high as they beat the South Americans in style thanks to goals from Michael Kenley, Scott Kashket and Levi Levenfiche.

Masters 35+
Team GB 2 Brazil 1 – win BRONZE
Goals from Adam Kaye and Paul Lenchner saw GB claim a famous victory – which also saw them claim bronze, to cap off an impressive campaign.

Masters 45+
Team GB 1 USA 2
Team GB missed out on a medal as they were narrowly beaten by the Americans.

Team GB’s disappointing campaign ended on a low note as they were comfortbaly beaten by the hosts. Aaron Barnes got on the scoresheet for GB.

South Africa won by 7 wickets – GB win SILVER

*BASKETBALL:
Team GB 62 South Africa 46
Team GB finished the competition on a high as they secured 7th overall place. Rafi Saipe once more top-scored claiming  24 points, Jo Curtis helped himself to 14 points, with Josh Cramer, Guy Margalith and Charlie Kahn all scoring six points.

*OPEN WATER SWIMMING:

Men’s 5km race:
Adam Warner – finished 8th in a time of: 58.03.25

Women’s 1.5km:
Naomi Ayrton – finished 5th in a time of: 25.09.65

*FUTSAL:

U18
Team GB 14 Hungary 2
Team GB may have missed out a medal, but they went goal crazy against the Hungarians to finish the competition in 7th place.

Zacahary Collins scored four times, Jonathan Gaon scored a hat-trick, Joshua Joseph, Samuel Zerovabeli and Oren Sheldon scored twice, with Jordan Kay completing the rout.

Team GB may have lost out in the final, but they were rewarded with silver for their fine efforts over the past 10 days.

Open 5-8th place
Team GB 6 Germany 5 – GB qualify for 5-6th place play off
A hat-trick from Jonathan Kurrant helped GB to a thrilling win over the Germans. Max Kyte, Ricky Engleman and Nick Landesberg strikes sealed a dramatic win.

*NETBALL:

Open bronze medal match:
Team GB 55 South Africa 17 – won BRONZE
Team GB ended their campaign with a win which saw them to a bronze medal

Junior final:
Team GB 47 Australia 44 – win GOLD
Team GB’s juniors put in a stunning performance to defeat the Aussies and win gold.

*RUGBY:

Junior final:
South Africa 40 Team GB 0 – won SILVER
Team GB were comprehensively beaten in the final, though did still pick up silver
