Surviving winter with (and without) Fauda

With Season 4 scheduled for mid 2021, why not dress like Doron and watch other action-packed Israeli shows on Izzy to fill the time

The release of Fauda season three was one of the few exhilarating moments during the tedious months of lockdown. It was summer and warmer, which helped, but the appearance of the show’s hero Doron Kavillio raised the communal temperature and mood.

Fauda which takes the Hebrew and Arabic word for chaos as its title, has turned Lior Raz into an international star and Netflix loves him so much that they instantly green-lit Hit and Run, the action series he has co-created, executive produced and written with his Fauda wing man, Avi Issacharoff.

Lior and The Affair’s Sanaa Lathan

With The Affair’s Sanaa Lathan, set as the female lead, Raz plays Segev Azulai, a former Special Forces soldier who is forced to confront his violent past when his wife is killed in a mysterious hit-and-run accident. That the series has been principally shot in Israel bodes well for Fauda fans who will now have to wait for this and Season 4 until next year.

So how do we fill those missing hours without Doron and his tough terror fighters? You can watch all three seasons again on Netflix or venture into new territory as Doron would do and watch new Israeli shows on the Izzy Stream.

Allenby’s Aviv Alush

If you love Fauda, Allenby is right up your street. Starring adored Israeli star Aviv Allush, Allenby is an addictive psychological thriller series about the secret underworld of a strippers’ bar in Tel Aviv.

Need more action, explosive stunts and gun fights?

Well, Izzy has that too with Israel’s break-out crime drama Street Justice which is focused on the blurred lines between legality and justice with lots of car chases.

Another way of replacing Fauda is to fashion your style in a similar way to that of the macho protagonist and his running mates. Dressing like Doron will certainly appeal to Fauda’s new post-quarantine female fans and the heavy leathers and combats are more suited to cold weather.

A quick way to nail the dress code is at  www.americasuits.com where a Doron Kavillio jacket is sold in sartorial homage. Post being what it is however it may be easier to get the same and better in jackets and jeans at Wallers (www.wallersclothing.com)in Golders Green.

Waller’s Marcel Plesner in his Fauda jacket

Owner Marcel Plesner has the pedigree to provide, as his grandfather founded the company in 1925 when men knew how to dress. For more winter 2020 inspiration, check out the leathers at Dunhill, Dior and Dries Van Noten or slip on a Prada military shoe or Fendi chunky sole.

Men shoe shop less than women, so want their boots made for walking to last. Enter Shoetherapy (www.shoetherapy.co.uk) has the definitive Fauda footwear – statement shoes you can forget you’re wearing, made from the  finest quality eco-friendly vegetable tanned leathers and lined with supersoft “mestizo” leather (not pigskin).

The shoes and boots also feature the ‘Shoetherapy Air Circulation System’,  which allows feet to breathe in a comfy and healthy environment.

Based in Northamptonshire which has shoe history, the company was actually established in Brazil in 1994 and sells to more than 70 countries.

Best of all, the range is available in generous regular and extra wide fittings for butch feet ,with removable insoles to facilitate orthotics.

This is all very technical, but worthwhile if you want to pursue enemies on foot in the future.

Hebrew action man essential

We’re not sure if Doron is flat-footed, but he has surely slept in his jeans during a desert stakeout, so hardy dark denim is required to create the air of cool combat. Engelbert Strauss jeans (www.engelbert-strauss.co.uk) are made of power denim and are tear-resistant – ‘For those who like to feel comfortable in the toughest conditions’, reads the blurb, so perfect for Fauda’ing.

For the Fauda finish, a cuff or dog tag with a powerful message showing allegiance to the Holy Land or  IDF past .

Doron may not be a necklace kind of guy, as chains are  risky when grappling with the enemy, but they are fine for watching Fauda on the sofa. Feel free to wear the same when you sign up for Izzy.
