Police are investigating after a 5cm swastika was discovered on a lift door in Parliament.
Oliver Denton Lieberman, aide to Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, discovered the Nazi symbol on the wall of a lift in the Norman Shaw North building – which is not accessible to the public.
He revealed on Wednesday that the door has been replaced, following his complaint yesterday afternoon.
“Happy to report that the door has been replaced overnight by @UKParliament staff,” he wrote today.
“Far-right racism is on the rise across Europe. We must fight fascism wherever and whenever we find it. No pasarán!”
Lieberman posted a photo of the graffiti on social media on Tuesday before reporting it to the police.
“Unbelievable but true – someone has scratched a swastika into the door of our lift in Parliament”, Lieberman wrote.
“Nazi graffiti in the Mother of Parliaments. A sickening act.”
A spokesperson for the House of Commons said on Tuesday it was aware of “some highly offensive graffiti in a lift on the Estate” to be “removed as a matter of urgency”.
