Table tennis side secure titanic treble

In an incredible, unprecedented hat-trick of success, Maccabi GB Table Tennis has ended the 2014 season with a titanic triple, clinching an historic three titles.

Maccabi GB First Team’s success began at the end of March when they scooped the title in the Premier Division of the Wembley and Harrow League for the first time in four years, and only the second in their entire history. In their final match of the season, the MGB champs demolished third placed Vagabonds 2nd Team 7 – 2 to win the league title by a margin of 10 points.

The same team were victorious again, winning the prestigious Elvin League Cup just two weeks later.

Lining up against the class act of Mitchell Jones, Kevin Hill and Radivan Zivkovic of Lowlands the result could have gone either way but a fairytale script had been written and Maccabi GB’s Guy Ben-Aroya, Dov Katz and Raphael Marom were its leading characters.

“I have rarely seen such fighting spirit, team unity and pure brilliance which edged our team an outstanding victory,” team captain Jeremy Banks said, “This is a historic moment for Maccabi GB Table Tennis and fills us with pride and joy.”

And MGB Table Tennis’ Junior players have also been enjoying a winning streak – recently taking the National Cadet League Division 2 Title. Topping an eight-strong division full of England-ranked juniors, Maccabi GB held their own, starting back in Autumn and carrying on until the final day of the season on Sunday 23rd March.

Featuring Sam Krisman, Sammy Kaye and Freddie Coverman, and ably supported by Carl Breindel and Joe Kaye, Maccabi GB went top early on in the competition and had to win in their last match to secure first place, which they did in fine style. Final day results saw wins against Bushey Academy B (5-4), Burlington Academy B (8-1) and a crucial 7-2 win against Watford Jets who were chasing them for first place.
