Man-of-the-Match Josh Kennet went on a driving run down the right wing, rode a challenge and crossed in to Ola Sogbanmu. He shot on the turn but the ball was straight at Noel Imber. The Blues then had a good shout for a penalty when Sogbanmu bore down on Imber and appeared to be clipped, but the referee gave a corner.
Enfield laboured and a weak shot failed to trouble Smith. At the other end Kennet went for an audacious shot from distance but missed the top left corner narrowly.
A moment of controversy came when Noel Imber fell down and injured himself – Rifat rolled the ball in but had the goal disallowed as the referee assumed there was a foul.
Eight minutes after the break Enfield Town took the lead, as Mitch Hahn scored a scrappy tap-in after Wingate were outnumbered in the box following a deep free kick. But Kennet levelled the scores instantly for the Blues with a superbly-timed volley from a half cleared free-kick.
However, the game changed dramatically as Marc Weatherstone was shown a red card for a silly second booking in the edge of the box.
Despite this, Wingate should have won the match when Ahmet Rifat fired a volley from a McCall flick but it hit the fortunate replacement keeper Lee White in the face and the ball flew over the bar.
